About the role

We are seeking to appoint an independent Non-Executive Director (located in the NT) to our established governing Board. This voluntary role offers an excellent opportunity for an individual with a background in early childhood, families, social policy, finance, or change management to contribute to the organisation’s strategic direction and future growth.

We are seeking a Director who has a strong connection with / exposure to the early childhood sector, who also have a sound working knowledge of and experience working with First Nations people and remote communities. You’ll have a sound understanding of best practice corporate governance within the NFP space, the capacity to work collaboratively with other Board members, and a demonstrated commitment to the strategic vision and values of Playgroup Australia. An AICD qualification would be highly regarded.

The term for this position is for 12 months, with the possibility of extension for an additional 12 months. Candidates will need to engage with the Playgroup NT board from time to time, as negotiated with the territory board. Playgroup Australia Board meetings are generally held online monthly, with one or two face-to-face meetings per year. Directors are also strongly encouraged to participate in one of the Board’s sub-committees to progress the work of the Board.

The following skills would be particularly welcome:
• Government relations, policy, and advocacy
• Contract management, compliance and risk management
• Marketing and branding

This is a volunteer position, with an estimated time commitment of 16-20 days per annum, including Board meetings, AGM attendance (via Zoom or in person), and participation in Board Committee meetings and work. Travel and professional development expenses will be covered by Playgroup Australia.
